Newborn Photography Session Tips:
-
Don't schedule your newborn photo shoot and your baby's first pediatrician visit on the same day. It's just too much stress on the baby's feeding and sleep schedule and frankly, you.
-
Plan on being in at least a few of the pictures, you will never regret the images you take, only the ones you don't. Even if you feel like you are carrying extra pounds, don't feel like even putting on makeup, at the very least plan on using your hands in some of the images.
-
If you are planning on being in the images consider having us pamper you with our hair and makeup artist at the studio. You will spend less time getting out the door and Suzanne can even do some of the photoshoot of the baby while you are getting pampered.
-
Wear tighter clothing vs. loose. It will make our job easier in photoshop if we need to give you a bit of a digital diet in photoshop, post photo shoot.
-
If you are bringing older siblings, let's do that first! Consider having a grandparent pick up the older sibling after the cute images are taken with them. If that is not an option, feel free to bring anything they may want to play with, toys, ipad, etc. to keep them busy while we shoot.
-
The most successful thing you can do is bring a well fed baby, and bring extra feedings. Even if your baby is on a perfect schedule, sometimes being undressed, handled by me, loved on, rocked back and forth, can cause a baby to want to suckle more than usual. Bring a pacifier if you are using one, an extra couple ounces of formula or know that you may need to nurse even if it's not time.
-
Know we will provide a private place to nurse and allow plenty of time for that during the photo shoot. We block off several hours for a newborn shoot so no one is in a rush.
-
Please clean their nose and face with a warm cloth before they come to the studio. Babies hate this and it starts the session off to a bad start if they are being wiped and swiped in the mouth and nose area.
-
The main advice is just be patient and as stress free as possible. THIS IS A MONUMENTAL, MEMORY MAKING EVENT THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET. I cannot tell you how many times over the years clients recall the funny things that have happened at their newborn session with me. Most of them involve their tiny baby peeing on something at the studio or me or them LOL. We launder everything used after each session so I promise I am not afraid of a little urine LOL.
Another thing to consider is do you have a passion or something you love that you want to pass on to your child? Maybe a love of sports or your profession? The above image was created for Sheri and Jordan Bellamy because she is an Optometrist. I love shooting something unique to each of you and am open to collaborate on any ideas you have!
A checklist for you before you leave the house:
- wipes
- extra formula if not breastfeeding
- pacifier if using
- extra burp cloth
- any meaningful item we will be using from the nursery or homeade items you want to incorporate
PLEASE KNOW THAT I HAVE EVERY THING WE NEED IF YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING PLANNED BUT BRINGING THE BABY TO ME AND ALLOWING ME TO TAKE OVER.
We have swaddles, wraps, props, baskets, buckets, flowers, bay tiara's, hats, etc in just about every color and style you could wish for. Save your money for the pictures and don't buy a lot of stuff.
